Matthew MacQueen serves as the Principal of Del Rio Academy and the Program Director for Sandhill Center. A lifelong New Mexican, Matthew was raised in Taos, New Mexico, which fostered his love for skiing and chili. He earned his B.A. in Media Arts from the University of New Mexico in 2001 and initially worked in the film industry on various projects.
In 2002, Matthew transitioned to residential treatment, where he began to share his passions for sports, art, cooking, and the outdoors as tools for personal growth and skill development. Joining the Sandhill Center team in 2004 as a Youth Mentor, he completed his M.Ed. in Multicultural Special Education from The College of Santa Fe in 2008. Since then, Matthew has worn many hats at both Sandhill Center and Del Rio Academy, including Milieu Team Leader, Teacher, Program Director, and Principal.
Matthew finds great joy in working at Del Rio Academy and Sandhill Center, where he is inspired daily by the commitment of individuals dedicated to learning and helping others. Outside of work, he is passionate about exploring the globe with his wife, family, and friends. He actively seeks out sporting events to complement his adventures in skiing, hiking, and biking, often accompanied by his dogs and a camera in hand.
